During a Ministerial Group for Human Development meeting, Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt, stressed the significance of integrating family planning education into school curricula. This initiative is aimed at achieving population balance and will involve religious discourse, civil society organizations, and media messages in alignment with the state’s objectives.
The announcement was made during the meeting of the National Population Council on Tuesday. The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Health, Industry, Transport, Endowments, Education, Higher Education, Labor, Culture, Housing, Justice, and Investment, as well as the head of the Public Mobilization and Statistics Agency and various relevant officials.
According to Daily News website the prime minister emphasized the importance of establishing suitable job opportunities and increasing sources of income for women, as these measures will significantly contribute to the success of family planning endeavors.
Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, deputy prime minister for human development and minister of health and population, highlighted that a significant focus of the Ministerial Group for Human Development will be on the population issue. He pointed out that various procedures and steps implemented by the relevant ministries and authorities in collective efforts have positively impacted this matter.
The remarks from Abdel Ghaffar highlighted a noticeable decrease in birth rates and a concurrent reduction in death rates, indicating the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare for its citizens.
At the meeting, the Minister of Health detailed the significant initiatives undertaken by the Ministry in addressing population concerns. It was explained that the National Population and Development Strategy 2023-2030 has been revised, with 27 population plans developed in accordance with the National Population and Development Strategy. This signifies a crucial advancement towards fulfilling the objectives of the National Population and Development Strategy 2023-2030.
Minister of Endowments Osama Al-Azhari emphasized the need to address a long-standing belief that having numerous children is a religious obligation. He described this belief as “negative” and “erroneous” and highlighted the importance of implementing comprehensive training programs for mosque leaders and endowment officials to prioritize family planning initiatives.
