The National Council for Women, headed by Dr. Maya Morsi, praised the directives of Major General Mahmoud Tawfiq, Minister of the Interior, to the Human Rights Sector to obtain identification papers, travel documents, and work permits for women with visual disabilities free of charge for one week, starting today in all governorates of Egypt.

The ministry stated that in order for visually impaired females to acquire the free ID papers, they must first provide documented evidence of disability or disability proof cards.

The decision coincided with the celebration of the International Day of the Blind and the White Cane, corresponding to October 15 of each year.

Morsy went on to express her pride and joy in these new directives, which are a continuation of the approach and efforts of the Egyptian state in supporting women.

She further stressed that the decision confirms the permanent support from the Ministry of the Interior for Egyptian women, to activate the societal and humanitarian role of the police and its social responsibility to enhance access to public police services for women with disabilities, which contributes to strengthening bridges of trust between them.
