Interior Minister, Mahmoud Tawfiq has made extensive efforts to improve the quality of police services offered to citizens and to lower the crime rate, since his appointment in June 2018.

Over the past four and half years, Tawfiq has worked to upgrade the security system to cope with the New Republic, whose pillars were set up by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi.

Achieving comprehensive security has always been his main focus while taking into consideration human rights and societal participation. It has been his duty to strengthen the trust between police officers and citizens.

As Egypt marks the 71st Police Day, which falls on January 25, MENA is shedding light on the most prominent efforts and success stories of the Interior Ministry over the past year.

According to a MENA report published on Monday, the police and military are working together to achieve security and foil any attempts to shake the stability of Egypt.

The Interior Ministry has successfully acted to reduce crime rates by about 15% in 2022 compared with the year before. Also, more than 25 million court rulings were implemented in 2022, according to the report.

And in the past year, the security apparatus arrested more than 1,500 gangs and seized 50,000 firearms, as mentioned in the report.

Credits go to the continued improvement of all police sectors, including upgrading the capabilities of human cadres through updated plans and training systems.

Technology has also contributed to developing the policy of the Interior Ministry, which changed from one of reaction to decisive initiative and prevention, resulting in a positive effect on security and stability across the country.
