Instagram, a popular social media platform, is developing a “Friend Map” feature, Meta’s spokesperson said last Monday.
The opt-in feature would allow users to see their friends’ current locations in real time.
According to Sada El Balad English, the company stated that the feature is an internal prototype and is not being tested externally.
This feature is similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map, but it isn’t the only Snapchat feature that Instagram has copied.
Instagram’s Friend Map would allow users to control who can see their location, but the data would be end-to-end encrypted.
Users had the option of sharing their location with followers who followed them back, the “Close Friends” list, or no one.
The feature would also include a “Ghost Mode” option, which would conceal the user’s last active location.
