Environment Minister Yasmin Fouad urged the world to restore the wetlands and protect them for upcoming generations.

Her remarks coincided with World Wetlands Day, which calls for investing in water, human and political resources to rescue the wetlands remaining around the world and restore those that had deteriorated to stand against the impacts of climate changes that the world gathered to face during the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 27) in Egypt.

The minister noted that Egypt has four Ramsar sites, including the Bardawil, Burullus, Qaroun, and Rayan lakes.

World Wetlands Day is celebrated annually on February 2 to raise global awareness about the vital role of wetlands for people and the planet.
