Egypt’s Social Democratic Party Hosted a Symposium On the Role of Women in The National Movement

The Women’s Secretariat and the Cairo Youth Union of the Egyptian Social Democratic Party organized a symposium titled “The Role of Women in the Egyptian National Movement”. The event was attended by Farid Zahran, the President of the Party, the Secretary-General, and several leaders and deputies of the Party.

A number of activists and participants in the student movement in the 1970s participated in the symposium, such as Dr. Karima al-Hafnawi, Hayat al-Shimi, Choukiya al-Kurdi and Mariam Abu daqqah, a member of the political bureau of the People’s Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

choukiya al-Kurdi discussed the communication between the women’s movement in Egypt and the world. She also reviewed the history of the Egyptian women’s movement, highlighting the participation of women in both political and social struggles. She emphasized the role of women in sustaining families and meeting the basic needs of children, especially in the difficult economic conditions experienced today. Additionally, she talked about the Palestinian women’s struggle and their resilience in the face of the occupation’s crimes and brutality.
