US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry hailed Egypt’s Nexus of Water, Food and Energy (NWFE) programme as a model for countries seeking to mobilize climate investments and transition to a green economy. This endorsement came from US Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry during the International Financial Architecture for the 21st Century seminar at the 79th UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.
The seminar brought together Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Rania Al-Mashat, Administrator of the UN Development Programme Achim Steiner, and former Colombian minister of finance José Antonio Ocampo as speakers.
For her part, Minister Al-Mashat said that coordination between different parties is essential to solving challenges hindering countries” development and progress and effective financial reforms, including the development gap.
The NWFE programme’s recognition on the international stage underscores Egypt’s commitment to sustainable development and climate action. As countries worldwide grapple with environmental challenges and economic pressures, initiatives like NWFE offer valuable insights into effective strategies for mobilizing investments and transitioning to greener economies.
With the urgent need for climate finance and the reform of international financial structures, Egypt’s NWFE programme stands out as a beacon of progress. Its potential to replace conventional power plants with renewable energy projects not only benefits Egypt but also sets an example for other nations looking to make similar transitions.
