The President of the Egyptian Apparel Export Council, Marie Louis Bishara, has announced that the garment sector’s exports totalled $2.2 billion from January to November 2023.
Bishara also added that the sector’s exports to the European Union, the second largest market for Egyptian ready-made garments, increased by 6% to reach $467 million during the period from January to November 2023. This is compared to $439 million in the same period of the previous year.
Spain was identified as the top European importer of clothing, with a value of $116 million in the first 11 months of 2023, compared to $87 million in the same period of the previous year, an increase of 33%. The sector’s exports to the Netherlands also increased by 5% to reach $62 million during the period from January to November 2023, compared to $59 million during the same period in the previous year. Meanwhile, exports to Turkey jumped to $215 million from $140 million, an increase of 54%.
Bishara noted that the sector’s exports to Arab countries also witnessed a significant increase, with Saudi Arabia leading the list, recording a 68% increase to reach $89 million in the period from January to November 2023, compared to $53 million in the same period of the previous year. Additionally, exports to Libya also increased to a record $60 million from $33 million, an increase of 82%.
