Egyptian President Visits Tomb of Mahatma Gandhi

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi on Wednesday, Jan. 25 visited the tomb of Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi.

Gandhi was a leader who renounced violence and unconditionally sided with peaceful resistance, he added.

El-Sisi, currently on a visit to India to promote the Indian-Egyptian ties and celebrate India’s Republic Day, laid a wreath on the tomb of the late leader and wrote in the guestbook.

“I am sincerely proud to visit the tomb of the Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, who served as a milestone in human history, embodying the principles of justice, peace, and equality,” Sisi wrote.

“The whole world needs to be inspired by such lofty principles that contributed to the unity and renaissance of the Indian nation, which we have always believed in and been committed to in Egypt throughout the different eras.”

Indeed, Egypt and India share cultural and historical links, as well as commitment to promoting security, peace, and stability, and supporting development efforts, Sisi added in the guestbook.
