Egypt’s National Election Authority (NEA) announced that 137 embassies and consulates across 121 countries are ready for the presidential election abroad, which is scheduled for 1-3 December.

Every Egyptian citizen registered in the voters’ database who will be abroad during the three-day election period is entitled to cast their vote in the electoral process, said the NEA.

This applies to those who reside abroad or temporarily travel for a short period.

To vote, individuals must provide either a national ID card or a valid passport.

If an individual has never obtained a national ID, they can still cast their ballot using the new passport that contains a national ID number.

The embassies and consulates will open their doors for the voters each day from 9am to 9pm.

Polling stations abroad can be found on the NEA website.

The candidates running for the presidency include incumbent President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, who is competing for a third term in office with the electoral symbol of a star, as well as Farid Zahran, the leftist opposition Social Democratic Party candidate, represented by a sun symbol.

There is also Abdel-Sanad Yamama, the candidate chosen by Egypt’s oldest liberal party the Wafd who is represented by the symbol of a palm tree.

The fourth candidate is Hazem Omar, the Republican People’s Party candidate, with a ladder symbol.

The final result will be announced on 18 December if no run-off is required.

Voting at home will take place on 10-12 December.

The number of eligible voters inside and outside the country may surpass 65 million, according to media reports.
