Egypt Ranks 1st in Africa in Scientific Research by SCImago

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Ayman Ashour stated on Saturday that Egypt’s scientific research centers and bodies have achieved remarkable progress in the international publication in light of the latest report published by SCImago Journal Rank for 2022.

The number of scientific citations recorded was 42,493, Minister Ashour continued, pointing out the advancement achieved by Egypt compared to the year 2021, when it was ranked 26th published scientific documents.

Egypt was ranked 24th globally among 233 countries, with 44,219 international researchers, and ranked 388th according to H-index, Minister Ashour said in a statement.

According to the Minister’s notes, Egypt has accounted for 1.13% of the internationally published documents.

Ashour confirmed that for the third consecutive time since 2020, Egypt ranked first in Africa, surpassing 58 African countries, followed by South Africa, which ranked 2nd, and Nigeria in 3rd place.

He added that Egypt’s scientific publishing represents 27% of the total published documents in Africa.
