Egypt Plans to Use Cultural & Tourism Links to Enhance Its Connections with BRICS

A report by the Egyptian Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Center highlights the growing cultural and tourism links between Egypt and BRICS member states.

Egypt is now a part of the intergovernmental grouping that includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.

According to the study, culture is one of the most critical aspects of Egyptian “soft power.” In the Global Soft Power Index of 2022, Egypt ranked 31st globally, an increase of 3.3 points from the previous year. Egypt seeks to strengthen its ties with BRICS Plus member states by opening cultural centers in countries like China. For instance, the Egyptian Cultural Office in China promotes Egyptian-Chinese relations.

In August, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi expressed appreciation for the invitation to join the BRICS membership starting January 2024. He said, “We value the declaration of the BRICS group and appreciate the confidence of all BRICS member states with whom we share robust relations.”
