President of the republic, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, said in a statement on Wednesday, Jan. 25, that Egypt and India seek to upgrade bilateral ties to a strategic partnership.

He spoke during a press conference regarding the integrated capabilities of Egypt and India that could lead to a solid system in the face of common challenges and emerging global crises, such as energy and food.

El-Sisi is currently attending an Indian ceremony as a guest of honor, to celebrate Republic Day, which falls on January 26.

This visit serves as an opportunity for the two countries to coordinate stances regarding the different regional and international files that directly affect national security, Sisi affirmed.

This year Cairo and New Delhi mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, the president said, noting that bilateral cooperation has witnessed a quantum leap at all levels.

“May I extend sincere greetings to the friendly country of India, its government, and people,” the president told reporters at the Indian presidential palace wishing the South Asian country further prosperity, security, peace, progress, and development.
