The Secretary-General of the Digital Co-operation Organization (DCO), Deemah AlYahya, held separate meetings last week with Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Arab League Secretary-General, during her visit to Cairo.

During her meeting with the Egyptian minister, AlYahya highlighted opportunities for collaboration between the DCO and Egypt in order to help achieve Egypt’s digital transformation strategy.

The DCO is the world’s first intergovernmental body that focuses on accelerating the growth of an inclusive and sustainable digital economy.

It is a global multilateral Organization founded in November 2020 with the aim of enabling digital prosperity for all.

AlYahya highlighted to Minister Talaat that Egypt’s economic strengths and objectives are in line with her Organization’s goals. She mentioned that these economic strengths and objectives present opportunities for advancement and prosperity in the digital economy.

She also praised the ‘Digital Egypt Pioneers Initiative’ for its role in leading digital transformation through the cultivation of digital skills, promotion of innovation, and support for young talents and entrepreneurs.

According to the Egyptian gazette She emphasized the DCO’s willingness to collaborate with Egypt in order to help achieve its ICT infrastructure goals and enhance innovation ecosystems through public-private partnerships. She stated that the Egyptian government’s initiatives in digital inclusion and infrastructure development are in line with the DCO’s strategic priorities.

“The Egyptian government has taken significant steps to strengthen the digital economy by investing in digital infrastructure, developing e-government services, and supporting digital entrepreneurship,” AlYahya said. “This is evident through efforts to enhance digital inclusion and empower women and youth in the digital economy, as well as the presence of a substantial number of companies operating in the digital economy,” she added.

She mentioned the factors contributing to the growth of the digital economy in Egypt. AlYahya also mentioned reports stating that digital investments in Egypt are projected to reach $9.8 billion by 2028.
