Climate Change and Women’s Health – COP27 side event

The side event led by WHO at the COP27 Health Pavilion will provide a summary of current evidence on the impact of various climate changes on women’s health from a gender perspective, with a focus on maternal and newborn health.

Country representatives will be asked to provide examples of promising health-system interventions to protect maternal and newborn health in climate change. Furthermore, various groups representing mothers and youth will contribute their perspectives on this critical issue.

The event will also highlight opportunities for promoting women’s health as part of the COP26 health commitments on climate resilient and low carbon sustainable health systems.

Flavia Bustreo, PMNCH Governance and Ethics Committee Chair, will be moderating the event and Merette Khalil, will be joining as a young leader.

The event will be held on November 14 at the COP27 Health Pavilion, which is located in the Blue Zone of the Sharm El-Sheikh International Convention Center (SHICC) in Egypt.
