The Women’s Department of the League of Arab States’ Social Affairs Sector has signed a cooperation agreement with the UN Women Regional Office to implement joint programs until 2024.

The Convention was signed by Ambassador Haifa Abu-Ghazala, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of States, Head of the Social Affairs Sector, and the UN-Women Regional Office, Dr. Suzan Mekhail, Regional Director of UN-Women in the Arab Region.

Ambassador Heifa Abu Ghazala praised the collaboration between the Arab League and the United Nations. She emphasized that this agreement pertains to the action plan of 2024, which aims to execute various cooperation programs between the two organizations. The action plan was initiated by signing a memorandum of understanding in 2016.

Collaboration between the two parties has been a key aspect of the partnership established with UN Women since its inception. A notable program in this regard was the Women, Security, and Peace Program, which achieved significant success in developing the Arab Women’s Strategy for Security and Peace, as well as formulating the strategies of Arab States and reports on this biennial dossier.

As part of the collaboration with UN Women, we have been working on several files, including those related to combating violence against women, political cooperation, and economic cooperation. We are looking forward to initiating the economic cooperation file in partnership with them.
