Mervat El-Tallawy: Egyptian Women Are Living Through a Golden Era

Amira El Gamal

Egyptian women are living through what former Minister of Insurance and Social Affairs Mervat El-Tallawy described as a “golden era,” driven by political support for women’s rights and empowerment under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

Speaking on the television program “Kol El Kalam” on Al Shams TV, El-Tallawy said President El-Sisi has consistently highlighted the important role of Egyptian women in building families and society.

She said his repeated recognition of women reflects his belief that women are a fundamental pillar of Egyptian society and an essential part of national development.

El-Tallawy linked the description of the current period as a “golden era” to the combination of political will and practical measures, including laws supporting women’s rights.

She also urged Egyptian women to protect the gains they have achieved, warning that future political changes could potentially affect those rights and gains.
