Tahya Misr Fund, Beit El Zakat Sign Strategic Protocol to Expand Social Protection and Gaza Relief Efforts

Mona Yousef

In a step aimed at deepening Egypt’s coordinated response to poverty alleviation and regional humanitarian needs, the Tahya Misr Fund and Beit El Zakat and Sadaqat have signed a strategic cooperation protocol to implement integrated development and relief initiatives nationwide, while intensifying support for Palestinians in Gaza.

Signed at Beit El Zakat’s headquarters in Cairo, the protocol brings together Sahar Nasr, adviser to the Grand Imam and secretary-general of Beit El Zakat and Sadaqat, and Tamer Abdel Fattah, executive director of the Tahya Misr Fund.

The agreement was concluded under the supervision of Ahmed El-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, reinforcing the religious institution’s role in advancing structured charitable and development partnerships.

Institutional Integration to Improve Aid Delivery

Central to the agreement is enhanced institutional integration between the two entities, including coordination of beneficiary databases and logistical capabilities to ensure assistance reaches eligible recipients efficiently and transparently.

The joint framework includes:

  • Direct support to low-income and vulnerable families across all Egyptian governorates.
  • Expanded outreach to border areas and remote communities.
  • Large-scale distribution campaigns of essential food supplies and new clothing for underprivileged households and orphans.

The measures are designed to strengthen Egypt’s social safety net and reduce service gaps in underserved regions.

Economic Empowerment and Marriage Support Programs

The protocol also introduces targeted initiatives to facilitate marriage for orphaned and financially disadvantaged young women. Beneficiaries will receive essential household appliances and basic furnishings to help establish stable households.

In parallel, both institutions will cooperate on sustainable development projects aimed at economically empowering families — transforming beneficiaries from aid recipients into income-generating households. Officials described this component as critical to improving long-term quality-of-life indicators and reinforcing self-sufficiency.

Coordinated Humanitarian Response for Gaza

Beyond domestic initiatives, the protocol expands coordination of joint medical, food and relief convoys to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip amid ongoing humanitarian pressures.

Abdel Fattah said the Tahya Misr Fund would mobilize its logistical and field capacities in service of the partnership’s objectives, particularly in youth empowerment, support for female-headed households and sustained Gaza relief efforts.

He added that the launch of joint convoys reflects Egypt’s enduring humanitarian commitment to the Palestinian people and its consistent support for the Palestinian cause.

Nasr described the agreement as aligned with Beit El Zakat and Sadaqat’s strategy of broadening effective partnerships with state institutions to maximize the impact of zakat and charitable contributions, ensuring funds are directed to their intended beneficiaries with rigorous governance standards.

The protocol builds on an established track record of collaboration between the two entities, including nationwide “Abwab El Kheir” (Doors of Goodness) aid convoys and coordinated relief missions for Gaza. Officials said the renewed partnership underscores growing institutional trust and enhanced capacity to manage large-scale national and humanitarian initiatives.
