Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Amr Talaat, met with the newly appointed board of the National Postal Authority, chaired by Ms. Dalia El-Baz, at the Smart Village headquarters. The meeting focused on the strategic development of Egypt Post, its ongoing digital transformation, and the expansion of financial inclusion and postal services nationwide.
Expanding postal network and services
In his address, Dr. Talaat expressed gratitude to the outgoing board members for their contributions to developing Egypt Post and welcomed the new members. He highlighted that Egypt Post, established in 1865, predates the founding of the Universal Postal Union by ten years and has maintained a 160-year legacy of trust and service to Egyptian citizens.
Dr. Talaat reviewed the major achievements of Egypt Post over the past seven years, noting that the total number of postal outlets now reaches 4,651 locations, with over 85% of offices modernized nationwide. Since 2018, roughly 1,000 new postal outlets have been added, including 770 full post offices, postal kiosks, and mobile units, in addition to more than 3,000 ATMs, covering nearly 70% of postal offices. These expansions have enhanced Egypt Post’s capacity to deliver financial, governmental, and postal services efficiently.
He also highlighted Waslaha, a postal service supporting e-commerce, and the establishment of 47 logistics centers to streamline postal operations. The Egypt Post Museum has also been expanded threefold, making it one of the leading postal museums regionally and internationally.
Digital services and financial inclusion
Dr. Talaat emphasized that Egypt Post is undergoing a comprehensive modernization to support digital transformation and financial inclusion, with additional projects planned to continue its development journey.
During the first meeting of the newly formed board, Ms. Dalia El-Baz thanked the former members for their contributions and welcomed the new board. She noted that the authority has achieved significant progress through modernizing post offices, offering integrated service packages, and introducing new services to restore its strategic role.
Ms. El-Baz highlighted plans to expand non-banking financial services, as well as governmental and private-sector services, leveraging the wide geographic coverage of post offices. She also announced the upcoming launch of the “Floussy” app, Egypt’s first digital platform allowing citizens to purchase and redeem investment fund documents via mobile phones, coinciding with Postal Day. Additionally, the “Easy Pay” app will be relaunched in partnership with E-Finance to facilitate mobile financial transactions.
Leadership and strategic vision
Dr. Talaat concluded by stressing the importance of continuing to build public trust and enhancing the Egyptian Postal Authority’s role as a leading institution nationally, regionally, and globally. He reaffirmed that Egypt Post’s modernization and digital transformation will support the state’s broader development objectives, strengthen financial inclusion, and provide citizens with accessible and innovative services.
It is worth noting that Dr. Talaat issued the official decision appointing the new board of Egypt Post, chaired by Dalia El-Baz, earlier this month.
