Mona Yousef

Dr. Maya Morsy, Egypt’s Minister of Social Solidarity, met with Mr. Mohamed Abdiker, Chief of Staff of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and his accompanying delegation at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital to discuss expanding cooperation in the fields of migration management and humanitarian assistance.

Strengthening Coordination on Migration and Reintegration

The meeting reviewed ways to enhance coordination between the Ministry of Social Solidarity and IOM across various migration-related areas — particularly return and reintegration programs for migrants.
Discussions also included cooperation with the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the potential for collaboration with the Fund for Supporting Civil Society Organizations’ Projects, which acts as an umbrella for NGOs working in migration-related initiatives in Egypt.

Morsy: The Egyptian Red Crescent Is the National Mechanism for Humanitarian Relief to Gaza

Minister Morsy welcomed Mr. Abdiker and the IOM delegation, emphasizing that the Egyptian Red Crescent serves as the national mechanism responsible for implementing humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza, in accordance with international humanitarian law.

She praised the ERC’s efficiency and professionalism, noting that aid convoys continue to cross daily despite challenges, reflecting Egypt’s steadfast humanitarian commitment and concrete actions to alleviate suffering.

IOM: Egypt Plays a Key Regional Role in Humanitarian Response

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Abdiker expressed deep appreciation to the Egyptian people and leadership for their ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire and peace in Gaza. He also thanked Minister Morsy for her leadership and cooperation with international partners.

“Egypt plays a central regional role in supporting Palestinians and Sudanese affected by humanitarian crises,” Abdiker said, adding that IOM will continue to facilitate the passage of aid through Egypt and is working with national counterparts to develop joint Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure transparent and effective operations.

He affirmed that IOM aims to increase its operational capacity in Egypt and enhance coordination with national authorities to expedite the movement of humanitarian supplies. The organization will work closely with the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the Egyptian Red Crescent to identify priorities, assess future needs, and ensure rapid, sustainable, and well-coordinated humanitarian responses.
