Dr. Rania Al-Mashat Holds Extensive Meeting to Review CAPMAS Efficiency

Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of Planning, held a comprehensive meeting with Maj. Gen. Khayrat Barakat, Head of the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), and senior officials from the agency. The meeting focused on the ongoing efforts to enhance the agency’s capabilities, contributing to informed decision-making and sustainable economic development in Egypt.

 Sixth Economic Census and Expansion of Data Scope

The Minister  announced the launch of the sixth edition of the Economic Census before the end of the current fiscal year. This census will introduce data on e-commerce, outsourcing, green economy, and industrial zones, providing valuable insights into Egypt’s economic structure and development needs. Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized that these new data points will significantly improve economic policy formulation.

Census and Surveys That Strengthen Decision-Making

The meeting also highlighted the key surveys and censuses conducted by the agency, including the Economic Census and the upcoming 2027 Population, Housing, and Establishments Census. Additionally, surveys related to the labor force, which are critical for understanding employment and unemployment dynamics, were discussed. Dr. Al-Mashat stressed the importance of regularly updated, accurate data in making effective economic decisions.

The Minister emphasized that evidence-based policies are crucial for achieving sustainable economic development, underscoring that these data are essential for prioritizing national needs and optimizing resource allocation.

Sixth Economic Census and Its Developments

The sixth edition of the Economic Census, set to be released by the end of the fiscal year, will provide detailed data on various economic activities, including the growing contributions of e-commerce and the green economy. Major General Khayrat Barakat highlighted that this census is a vital tool for economic planning, offering insights into the structure of economic activities and their contribution to the national GDP.

Preparation for the 2027 Population Census

In addition to the economic census, the agency is preparing for the 2027 Population, Housing, and Establishments Census. This census will adopt modern international methodologies and provide essential data on Egypt’s demographic trends, which are crucial for shaping future social and economic policies.

Improving the Agency’s Technological Infrastructure

As part of the technological development efforts, the meeting also reviewed plans to improve the agency’s digital infrastructure, including an overhaul of its website to provide more accessible and user-friendly data. Dr. Al-Mashat noted that these technological advancements represent an investment in the future, enabling the agency to deliver timely, accurate data that supports decision-making at all levels.

The Egypt Statistical Indicators Portal

The launch of the Egypt Statistical Indicators Portal was also discussed. This platform will serve as a central hub for accessing data and statistics produced by CAPMAS. The portal will be an essential tool for policy planning, offering comprehensive data across various sectors such as the economy, health, and education to support sustainable development.

Ongoing Collaboration to Support Development Policies

In closing, Dr. Al-Mashat emphasized the importance of continued collaboration with CAPMAS She commended the agency’s efforts to improve its statistical system and develop data collection and analysis tools. She also reiterated the Ministry’s support in enhancing the agency’s ability to provide accurate and up-to-date data, which will play a key role in achieving Egypt’s Vision 2030 and sustainable development goals.
