The Sharm El-Sheikh Camel Racing Field hosted a competition between Egyptian and Jordanian camels on the second day of the Sharm El-Sheikh Camel and Heritage Festival.
The festival, which is being held under the patronage of the Prime Minister and the Governor of South Sinai, features a distinguished presence of public figures, media personalities, and leaders from Arab camel racing federations. Participants include delegations from six Arab countries: Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait, along with Tunisia, Algeria, and 17 Egyptian governorates.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, visited Sharm El-Sheikh to attend the festival’s closing ceremonies. He underscored the importance of the event in supporting traditional sports in Egypt. He noted that the Ministry is giving special attention to such events, as they contribute to promoting local culture and supporting diverse youth activities.
Dr. Khaled Mubarak, Governor of South Sinai, emphasized that the Arab Camel and Heritage Festival in Sharm El-Sheikh reflects authentic Bedouin heritage and strengthens the position of the governorate as a sports and cultural hub in the Arab world. He added that the festival provides an opportunity to strengthen ties between Arab tribes and offers a cultural representation of Egypt’s rich heritage.
Dr. Mubarak further highlighted that the Sharm El-Sheikh Camel Festival is not only a celebration of heritage that strengthens cultural identity but also plays a vital role in supporting the local economy by providing direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly for those involved in camel racing.
The Governor pointed out that the construction of the international camel racing track in Sharm El-Sheikh cost a total of ُُEGP 125 million Egyptian pounds. Additionally, in 2022, the track’s platform was upgraded with an investment of 27 million pounds. The development of the “Bedouin Heritage Village” and facilities for camels, including a mosque and a veterinary unit, was completed in 2024.
