Dr. Ahmed ElSobky, Chairman of the Egypt Healthcare Authority and Supervisor General of the Universal Health Insurance and Life Dignified projects, met with senior executives from MSD, including Dr. Hazem Abdel-Samia, Regional Director, and Dr. Osama Shaheen, Head of Government Affairs and Corporate Communications. The meeting was part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with global partners to enhance healthcare services in Egypt.

During the meeting, both parties discussed potential areas of cooperation between the General Authority for Healthcare and MSD, particularly in the fields of oncology treatment, pharmaceutical innovation, and the development of immunotherapy solutions. They also explored MSD’s contributions to sustainability projects and global efforts to address the impacts of climate change.

A key outcome of the discussion was the agreement to establish a Center of Excellence for Women’s Health in Upper Egypt, focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of gynecological cancers, such as uterine and breast cancers. The center will also integrate programs for the management of chronic diseases and provide education on women’s health.

Both parties agreed to develop a comprehensive plan that includes community awareness programs, medical training initiatives, specialized medical missions, and the exchange of expertise with global healthcare organizations. Additionally, the center will work toward achieving international accreditation to provide world-class services, with an emphasis on preventive programs for cervical cancer in collaboration with relevant authorities.

Dr. Ahmed ElSobky highlighted that the establishment of the Women’s Health Center of Excellence aligns with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. He emphasized that the initiative aims to expand to other regions covered by the Comprehensive Health Insurance program after achieving tangible results in its initial phase.

MSD executives expressed their pride in partnering with the General Authority for Healthcare, reaffirming their commitment to supporting the project with cutting-edge pharmaceutical innovations and health education programs.

The meeting was attended by several senior officials from the General Authority for Healthcare, including Dr. Amir El-Telwany, Executive Director of the Authority; Dr. Ahmed Hamad, Advisor to the Head of the Authority for Health Policies and Systems; and  Dr. Radwa Abdel-Azim, Member of the Technical Office of the Head of the Authority.

Both parties agreed to launch the project later this year, positioning it as a model for investing in women’s health in Egypt, with the aim of replicating the success across the Comprehensive Health Insurance system’s governorates.
