On Saturday, Egypt marked over a century of diplomacy with the launch of commemorative postage stamps, celebrating the founding of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and its enduring role in the nation’s international relations. The event took place at the Ministry’s Tahrir Palace, with key participation from Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty.

The ceremony featured the unveiling of four specially designed stamps, each showcasing the main headquarters of Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs throughout its history. Talaat presented the stamps to Abdelatty as a symbol of the country’s long-standing diplomatic legacy and its continued commitment to safeguarding national interests and security on the global stage.

A Tribute to Egypt’s Diplomatic History

The release of these stamps coincides with Egypt’s observance of Egyptian Diplomacy Day, held annually on March 15. This date commemorates the re-establishment of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following Egypt’s declaration of independence from Britain on February 28, 1922.

The stamps honor the ministry’s historical evolution, starting with its first headquarters in Bab al-Louq, within the Bustan Palace, a property once owned by King Fouad. Other notable buildings featured in the stamps include Tahrir Palace (1930), the Maspero building (1994), and the New Administrative Capital (2024). Each location represents a key phase in Egypt’s diplomatic journey and development.

Ongoing Commitment to Diplomacy

This stamp release reflects Egypt’s deep-rooted diplomatic tradition and its ongoing efforts to represent and protect the country’s interests on the global stage. The initiative is a visual reminder of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ crucial role in shaping Egypt’s foreign policy and advancing its international presence.
