Minister of Social Solidarity, Maya Morsi, held a meeting on Thursday with AbdulHakim Elwaer, the FAO Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa. The focus of the discussion was on strengthening collaboration, particularly in the areas of improved livelihoods, nutrition, and the empowerment of rural women.

A key topic of the meeting was the ongoing joint project in Menya governorate. This project aims to uplift the lives of 2,000 families residing in 10 villages, which are part of the government’s Decent Life initiative. By creating 2,000 direct jobs and 2,000 seasonal jobs for women, youth, and disabled individuals, the project seeks to provide sustainable economic opportunities and improve the overall well-being of these communities.

Minister Morsi and Mr. Elwaer also explored potential avenues for cooperation between the FAO and the Rural Crafts Support Fund. Recognizing the FAO’s expertise in enhancing the quality of services delivered to beneficiaries, the Minister expressed interest in leveraging the organization’s knowledge to further strengthen the Fund’s impact.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the FAO to working together to address the pressing challenges faced by rural communities in Egypt. Through joint efforts, they aim to create a more equitable and sustainable future for all.
