Islamic Societies Tied To Women Empowerment: Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Al-Tayeb

Dr. Ahmed al-Tayeb, Al-Azhar Grand Imam, stated that the flourishing of Islamic societies is linked to women’s empowerment by granting them the rights stipulated in Islam.

He made these remarks at Cairo’s 35th Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Conference.

He explained that Al-Azhar has promoted women’s causes, allowing women to take on leadership roles and highlighting their positive contributions to society.

He underlined the importance of reconsidering several fatwas made against women when Sharia law came into effect. He also stated that religious edicts had harmed women due to the incorrect interpretation of the law.

Furthermore, al-Tayeb emphasized the depth of the relationship between the al-Azhar Institution and Saudi Arabia.

During the Conference, he met with Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance Sheikh Dr. Abdullatif bin Abdulaziz Al Alsheikh, praising the Kingdom’s role in Dawah and support for Arab and Islamic causes under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

He expressed his appreciation for the role played by the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance in serving Muslims.

The 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs at the Ministry of Religious Endowments (Awqaf) kicked off in Cairo on Sunday under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s patronage.

The Conference, chaired by Egypt’s Minister of Endowment, Osama Al Azhari, brings together ministers, muftis, and scholars from over sixty nations to debate the “Role of Women in Building Awareness.”

This atypical Conference focuses on the importance of women’s empowerment, emphasizing their critical role in different sectors of life.
