Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly has declared Thursday, July 11th, an official holiday to commemorate the New Islamic “Hijri” Year. This paid holiday applies to employees in ministries, government departments, public-sector companies, and private-sector companies.
Based on the lunar sighting, the chosen date corresponds to the first day of Muharram 1446 AH.
Madbouly’s decree, announced today, confirms that it will be a paid day off in place of the actual date of the first of Muharram, which will determine the sighting of the crescent moon.
The crescent moon is expected to be sighted on Friday night. As per NRIAG, Saturday will mark the end of Dhul-Hijjah 1445 AH, and Sunday will be the first of Muharram 1446 AH in Egypt and other Arab and Islamic countries.
