Dr. Yasmine Fouad has been reelected as the Egyptian Minister of Environment and has taken the constitutional oath before President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. After showing outstanding achievement in her previous term, the minister will resume her successful work in the Ministry.
Minister Yasmine Salah El-Din Fouad Abdel Aziz assumed the position of Minister of Environment of Egypt on June 18, 2018, after previously holding the position of Assistant Minister of Environment since 2014.
Born on March 24, 1975, Fouad is the third woman to hold the position of Minister of Environment. She brings a wealth of knowledge to her role, holding a PhD in International Politics from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and a Master’s in Environmental Sciences from Ain Shams University.
With over 20 years of experience in the fields of environment and international cooperation, Dr. Yasmine Fouad has held numerous positions in the Egyptian government, United Nations organizations, non-governmental organizations, and universities, demonstrating her deep understanding of the sector.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad has extensive experience in the environment and sustainable development field, gained through academic and fieldwork.
As Minister of Environment, she is leading transformational change in the environmental sector in Egypt, aiming to create an enabling environment that encourages the private sector’s role.
Furthermore, she has achieved tremendous and apparent success at the international level, particularly in advancing the biodiversity agenda and preparing the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, inspiring others with her impactful leadership.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad has shown exceptional leadership, including succeeding in making the COP27 Climate Conference and its achievements a shining testimony of Egypt’s ability to organize one of the largest international conferences in the history of the United Nations.
