CBE Adjusts Rules for Usage of Credit Cards Abroad

News Agencies

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has just issued new rules for customers who do not provide proof of use for their credit cards abroad within 90 days of using them.

The newly implemented rules include suspending the cards and listing the customers on a platform operated by the Egyptian Credit Bureau i-Score and the CBE’s credit registration system.

The rules also prohibit customers from using credit cards abroad, according to I-score’s daily report. They will not obtain new credit cards or use them internationally.

According to CBE, this is part of the controls for using credit cards for international travel, issued on October 29, 2023.

The bank emphasized the importance of sending text messages to customers who do not submit the necessary documents within 90 days before suspending their cards.
