Yesterday, the Working Women’s Secretariat, headed by Aida Mohi El-Din, held its first meeting at the headquarters of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions in the presence of the women’s association of the general unions to establish the formation of a secretarial office, to develop a long-term work plan and a short-term plan to implement it within the association.
The meeting took place under the patronage of Mohamed Gibran, President of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions, under the supervision of Hisham Al-Muhairi, Vice President of the Federation and Supervisor of the Women’s Association, and in the presence of Eid Mersal, Secretary-General of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions.
Secretary-General of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions began the meeting with a speech by Eid Mersal, stressing the importance of the role of women in society politically, socially, and economically and in supporting and assisting the General Union of Women in all fields.
Mersal also urged all attendees to intensify their efforts to raise the status of Egyptian women in general and working women in particular. He further underlined the need to join hands to highlight the value of the collective work.
On her part, Aida Mohieldin, Head of the Working Women’s Secretariat, welcomed all those present, wishing them continued success and working together hand in hand, as success comes through teamwork and complementing each other.
The meeting discussed several proposals, among the women, recounting their experience of running in union elections and the most important difficulties they faced in the electoral battle.
I also presented the long-term and short-term work plan, which is being implemented by the Women’s Secretariat to achieve the maximum aspirations of union women, including working to train and educate trade union women in all aspects of life.
The meeting concluded with the formation of the Working Women’s Association Office to facilitate the workflow within the secretariat of the General Federation of Egyptian Trade Unions.
