New York City hosted the 15th edition of Climate Week 2023 from 17 to 24 September under the slogan “We Can, We Will.” As in previous editions, the event is presented as a platform for connection and dissemination, focusing on the fulfillment of climate goals and the need to increase the commitments made by companies, governments, and organizations.
The event witnessed the participation of Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, Ministerial Coordinator, and Climate Conference Envoy.
The annual event, hosted by the Climate Group and New York City, took place in conjunction with the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
As President of the 27th session of the United Nations Climate Conference COP27, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry also chaired the ministerial meeting on financing arrangements to respond to climate losses and damages within the activities of the 15th session of New York Climate Week.
Egypt’s Environment Minister, Yasmine Fouad, also participated in a ministerial session on financing arrangements to deal with the losses and damages caused by climate change, as part of the 15th session of New York Climate Week.
Hoping to improve the outcomes of the approaching COP28, the session addressed the topic of loss and damage, which refers to the negative effects of climate change that cannot be avoided or adapted to.
Fouad suggested that to lessen the effects of climate change, it is vital to increase funding for mitigation and adaptation programs well in advance of COP28. She also emphasized the necessity of utilizing the Loss and Damage Fund to assist the nations that are most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, which was agreed upon during COP27.
