Meta’s Threads App Surpasses 100M Users in Under 5 Days

Meta’s newly launched Threads app reached over 100 million users in less than a week since its initial release, breaking several records.

According to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, the parent company of Instagram and Facebook, the app has acquired around 10 M users during the first seven hours of its launch, leaping to 30M by Early Thursday before breaking the 100M barrier within five days.

Notably, Thread’s rapid growth has broken the record, previously set by Open AI’s ChatGBT app.

A professor at George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs, David Karpf, shared his opinion regarding the new competitor to Twitter, stating: It is too early to tell if Threads is the new Twitter. It’s definitely something, but I also have my doubts.

On the other hand, CNBC reported that Twitter’s traffic is tanking, going down 5% within the first two days Threads became available.

Moreover, rumors have been speculating all over social media that Twitter plans to file a complaint on the basis of copyright violation.

According to the head of Instagram, Thread’s uniqueness lies in not pushing politics or serious matters onto users, though Karpf believes that may pose a problem.

He added: If Meta has decided that they would like to have Twitter, but without all of the breaking news and the politics, what they’re going to find is that’s when Twitter is actually at its best. Otherwise, it’s just going to be celebrities and influencers gabbing at each other, and we have Instagram for that.

Overall, it is too early to determine a future for the app, considering it is missing key features that are available on Twitter, such as hashtags and a way to search for posts, which the head of Instagram confirms are underway.
