An Egyptian team of lawyers and archaeologists claimed two billion dollars in restitution from Netflix for distorting the image of Queen Cleopatra and ancient Egyptian civilization.

According to a letter submitted to UNESCO by the team, Egypt has the right to an initial compensation of two billion dollars for distorting the “Egyptian identity.”

According to the letter, Egypt also has the right to adopt legal steps to safeguard Egypt’s tangible and intangible legacy, whether ancient or modern.

Netflix released a contentious documentary video on Queen Cleopatra VII in which the ancient Egyptian queen was shown as black, lending credence to Afrocentric theories that the ancient Egyptian civilization was of black ancestry.
