Chairman of the Acdima Pharmaceutical Group, Dr. Olfat Ghorab, revealed the establishment of the first multi-purpose factory for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical raw materials in Africa and the Middle East, “ARAB API”, which aims to localize the active pharmaceutical raw materials industry in Egypt.
Ghorab said that the project was implemented by EPPCO, headed by Dr. Ahmed Kilani, under the directives of the political leadership, noting that the project enhances the country’s capabilities to face the current economic challenges, in addition to providing the country’s needs for pharmaceutical raw materials.
For his part, Dr. Ahmed Kilani explained that the project is the first factory for the manufacture of effective pharmaceutical raw materials in Africa and the Middle East, pointing out that the project works on two axes; the first is to localize effective pharmaceutical raw materials industry in Egypt, not just pharmaceutical products in their final forms, while the second is reducing imports and reducing dependence on foreign companies, which positively affects the balance of payments.
Dr. Kilani further confirmed that the factory works to secure and provide Egypt’s strategic needs of pharmaceutical raw materials while alleviating the financial burdens on health care by strengthening the local component and reducing the foreign component.
He continued: The project, which Egypt is implementing through EPPCO, contributes to increasing foreign currency income through Increasing exports and placing Egypt on the export map for effective pharmaceutical raw materials.
