Experts meet at Library of Alexandria to discuss the cost of violence against women
The Infamous library of Alexandria will host an expert meeting entitled “The Cost of Violence against Women: Challenges and Coping Mechanisms,” on Tuesday, December 13, 2022, at 10:00 am, in the Delegates Hall – Bibliotheca Alexandrin.
The meeting event comes in line with the Women’s Studies and Social Transformation Program, and within the activities organized by the program within the framework of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women “Together we protect them”, based on the intellectual message that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina undertakes in various societal fields and its keenness to improve the conditions of women and raise public awareness in this matter.
The experts intend to highlight the consequences the Egyptian society face as a result of gender-based violence; whether they’re tangible, such as damage to the health sector and the functional work environment, or intangible, through the spread of some popular beliefs and cultures that stereotype the role of Women and the reduction of their social status, as well as research patterns of social relations and daily interactions between members of society and methods of using power in different social and class structures.
The meeting will also discuss the various challenges that may contribute to the spread of violence against women, and the mechanisms and measures that contribute to eliminating this phenomenon.
A group of experts, members of the House of Representatives and Senate, university professors, judges, decision-makers and other experts, specialists and those interested in women’s issues will participate in the meeting.
