Women and the Word Ceremony Announces Honorees of Egyptian Journalism Pioneers in Its First Edition

The advisory committee of the first edition of the “Women and the Word” ceremony has announced the names of pioneering Egyptian women journalists and media figures set to be honored during the celebration organized by Al-Ahram Foundation under the patronage of the National Press Authority, coinciding with the 150th anniversary of the historic institution.

The organizing committee, which includes a distinguished group of editors-in-chief, writers, and media professionals, revealed a list of prominent female figures who have made remarkable contributions to Egyptian journalism and media across various national institutions.

The honorees include:

• Amina Shafik – Al-Ahram Foundation
• Amal Othman – Akhbar Al Youm Foundation
• Sanaa El-Saeed – Dar Al Hilal
• Amal Bekir – Al-Ahram Foundation
• Khayria El-Beshlawy – Al Gomhuria Newspaper
• Magda Morris – Al Gomhuria Newspaper
• Sakina Fouad – Egyptian Radio and Television & Al-Ahram Foundation
• Safia Mostafa Amin – Akhbar Al Youm Foundation
• Neama El-Baz – Akhbar Al Youm Foundation
• Naglaa Bedeir – Rose Al-Youssef Magazine
• Aida Rizk – Al-Ahram Foundation

In a tribute honoring the legacy of influential women journalists, the ceremony will also pay symbolic tribute to several late media pioneers whose impact on the profession remains unforgettable. The list includes: Renée Takla, Fatma El-Youssef, Amina El-Saeed, Hassan Shah, Maha Abdel Fattah, Bahira Mokhtar, Betsy Takla, Leta Gallad, Nabila Rashed, Soheir Hedayet, Afkar El-Kharadly, Jacqueline Khoury, Hoda Tawfik, Hedayet Abdel Nabi, and Hala Mostafa.

The committee also announced a special tribute dedicated to Palestinian women journalists and media professionals through honoring Mona Awkal, correspondent of Al Qahera News Channel, in recognition of their role in covering the Palestinian cause.

The celebration, which will take place at Al-Ahram headquarters in Naguib Mahfouz Hall and the Arts Hall, will feature several accompanying events, including a keynote seminar titled “Women’s Social, Cultural, and Economic Empowerment,” attended by prominent officials and intellectuals.

The event will also host “The Woman” exhibition, showcasing rare Al-Ahram archival collections, murals, and artworks by pioneering artists.

In addition, the celebration will witness the launch of “Ahram Style,” a new digital platform issued by Al-Bayt and Nisf Al-Dunia Magazine, focusing on women, family affairs, and human development.

The advisory committee overseeing the event and the selection of honorees operates under the patronage of Engineer Abdel Sadek El-Shorbagy, Chairman of the National Press Authority, and includes Dr. Mohamed Fayez Farahat, Chairman of Al-Ahram Foundation, alongside prominent journalists and media figures including Mohamed Salmawy, Hamdy Rizk, Maged Mounir, Osama El-Saeed, Ahmed Ayoub, Gamal El-Kashky, Khairy Ramadan, and journalist Sawsan Mourad Ezz El-Arab, Editor-in-Chief of Al-Bayt and Nisf Al-Dunia Magazine.
