WhatsApp introduces Channels in Egypt and six other countries

WhatsApp revealed the early introduction of Channels in Egypt, a new way for individuals and organizations to communicate with big groups of people. Channels are an one-sided broadcast messaging platform that allows administrators to communicate limitless text, photographs, videos, stickers, and polls to their followers.

Channels are intended to be secret and secure, and they will exist independently of users’ private conversations. Channel history will be kept on WhatsApp’s servers for 30 days, and admins will be unable to add followers to their channels without their permission.

WhatsApp is collaborating with partners from a variety of sectors and businesses to commemorate the launch of Channels in Egypt, including government agencies, media firms, and sports teams. Channels will be used by these partners to convey information with their audiences, such as news, updates, and announcements.

“Egypt is a vibrant space for creators and innovation,” said Shaden Khallaf, Meta Head of Public Policy for North Africa. “The launch of WhatsApp Channels will provide people and organizations here with early access to a new way to share information with Egypt’s fast-growing WhatsApp community.”

WhatsApp Channels are currently available in a limited number of countries, but the company plans to roll them out to more countries in the coming months.
