The International Labor Organization (ILO) and UN Women (UNW) hosted the closing event of the Joint Program “Promoting Productive Employment and Decent Work for Women in Egypt, Jordan, and Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT)” (JP Work4Women) on Thursday, 29 August 2024, in Amman.

The five-year program addressed the structural barriers women face in accessing decent work in these regions. The closing event showcased the project’s key achievements and lessons learned, and various stakeholders attended it.

The program engaged around 2.4 million beneficiaries and partners in capacity building, advocacy, and awareness campaigns. It contributed to aligning national legislation with international standards, preventing violence and harassment in the workplace, achieving gender pay equity, and empowering women in leadership positions.

UN Women also highlighted its contribution to creating a political climate where women’s economic empowerment became a national priority for the government of Jordan.

On their end, the Swedish government supported the program, emphasizing its impact on systemic and structural changes for women’s employment.

The event also included moderated panel discussions and an exhibition showcasing the program’s interventions and initiatives.
