The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime has chosen Egyptian volunteer Karima Hany, a volunteer with the Anti-Addiction Fund, to participate in the International Youth Forum on Drug Prevention, which will take place at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna in March 2025.
About Karima Hany and her Volunteer Role
Karima Hany, 17 years old, has been a volunteer with the Anti-Addiction Fund for over a year. During this time, she has received specialized training that enabled her to carry out awareness-raising activities aimed at preventing addiction. Her efforts include:
- Implementing prevention programs in rehabilitated areas (alternative to slums).
- Participating in the largest school-based awareness program on the dangers of drug use.
Efforts of the Anti-Addiction Fund
The Anti-Addiction Fund operates with a volunteer network of 34,000 individuals across Egypt, with university students making up 75% of the volunteers, and women representing 64% of the total number. This network works on:
- Raising awareness about the risks of drug use through volunteer programs in universities.
- Running awareness programs targeting youth and underserved communities.
- Assisting in developing preventive strategies and plans for the Fund.
- Organizing national and global events to increase awareness about addiction risks.
Karima’s selection for the prestigious forum highlights the significant impact of the Fund’s volunteer network and their ongoing efforts to combat addiction across Egypt.
