According to the Egypt Independent website, the international women’s art festival “She Arts” will kick off on Thursday evening, September 26, at the American University campus in Cairo.
The festival’s activities will continue for four consecutive days between the headquarters of the Cultural Center in Tahrir at the American University in downtown Cairo, the French Institute, and the Al-Jazuit Theater in Alexandria.
The most famous women’s art festival in Egypt returns for its fourth edition this year, embracing more than 23 concerts and more than 100 artists from nine countries: Tunisia, Hungary, Chile, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sudan, Egypt, and the US.
This year, the festival celebrates the centenary of Umm Kulthum at the orchestral opening ceremony, which features singer Marwa Nagy accompanied by the She Arts orchestra, the first entire women’s orchestra in Egypt led by Maestro Donia Degheidy.
The festival will host exceptional Egyptian performances by artists Yousra al-Hawari and Yousra al-Jundi, singer Nuran Abu-Talib, and the Restmo band. It will also host the first concert in Egypt by Tunisian singer Amani Riahi, who will conclude the festival on September 29.
The fourth edition will also witness international musical performances, including Italian Gold Mass, the Spanish band Vanika, the Bara Zezova band from the Czechs, Jamis of Hungary, and Julie Odl from the United States of America.
Along with its concerts, the festival will feature many theatrical and improvised performances, contemporary dance performances, and artistic seminars. It will also host the new version of the “She Arts” competition to encourage emerging women’s talents.
The winner of last year’s competition, Magda Reda, is participating in the opening ceremony of the current edition with the She Arts orchestra.
