The top 10 foreign pharmaceutical companies operating in Egypt achieved sales of 60 billion EGP in 2024, accounting for 28% of the total drug sales in the country last year.
According to a report by IQVIA, a global pharmaceutical information organization that tracks drug sales through Egyptian pharmacies and drugstores, the total drug sales in Egypt reached 214.5 billion EGP in 2024, marking a 46% increase from 2023.
The report, reviewed by Al Arabiya Business, revealed that despite the significant growth in sales value, the quantity of medications purchased by Egyptians remained relatively stable at 2.94 billion units.
GlaxoSmithKline emerged as the highest-selling foreign pharmaceutical company in Egypt, generating 10.5 billion EGP in sales.
With a 46% increase in overall drug sales and a steady demand for medications, the Egyptian pharmaceutical market continues to demonstrate strong resilience and potential for further growth, making it an attractive destination for investment and innovation in the sector.
