In a bid to ensure the health and safety of citizens during the Easter and Sham El-Nessim holidays, Egypt’s Ministry of Health and Population reported the delivery of over 3.7 million medical and awareness services across the country. The services, which took place from April 19 to April 21, 2025, were part of a comprehensive medical insurance plan designed to support the public during one of Egypt’s busiest holiday seasons.
Expanded Healthcare Effort Across the Country
The initiative saw the active participation of all healthcare facilities nationwide, including mobile medical caravans, portable X-ray vehicles, women’s health units, and emergency services. In addition, community outreach teams were deployed across churches, parks, clubs, and other high-traffic areas to provide both medical services and health education.
Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, highlighted that a total of 3,732,147 medical and awareness services were rendered during the holiday period. Among the services, 1,978,394 medical treatments were provided through mobile medical caravans. These services covered a wide range of specialties, including dentistry, pediatrics, internal medicine, orthopedics, as well as family planning services, ultrasound tests, and preventive health check-ups for women.
Community Health Awareness Initiatives
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar emphasized that 1,753,753 awareness services were delivered by community teams. These efforts focused on preventative health measures for communicable diseases, instructions on how to handle cases of food poisoning, and guidance on how to benefit from the government’s presidential health initiatives available in health facilities across the country. Teams also directed citizens to where they could find health services in their area, ensuring accessibility to crucial healthcare information.
Mobile Units for Women’s Health and Advanced Diagnostics
The Ministry of Health also expanded its early breast cancer detection initiative. Twelve women’s health vehicles were deployed across four governorates: Sharqia, Beheira, Minya, and Qalyubia, offering comprehensive screening that included initial breast exams, ultrasound, and mammography. For any identified cases requiring further attention, women were referred to specialized hospitals for treatment.
Additionally, in an effort to support precise diagnostics, five mobile CT and MRI vehicles were deployed in Cairo, Minya, and Red Sea Governorates. These vehicles provided advanced imaging services for a variety of medical conditions, particularly in specialties such as neurology, orthopedics, and emergency care, ensuring that patients received timely and accurate diagnoses during the holiday period.
Enhanced Emergency Services and Special Operations
A key aspect of the health plan was the provision of 418 ambulances to secure the Easter Mass services and 278 ambulances dedicated to ensuring the safety of holiday-goers visiting parks and public spaces. The ambulance fleet was placed on high alert to swiftly respond to any emergency situations. Furthermore, the Ministry deployed 10 ambulatory boats, which were stationed across various regions including Qanater, Giza, and Aswan, ensuring coverage for visitors to tourist sites along the Nile River, including tourist boats and islands.
Ongoing Monitoring and Support for Healthcare Facilities
The Ministry continued to implement intensive field monitoring campaigns at healthcare facilities and mobile service points, guaranteeing that medical services were being delivered efficiently and effectively. Dr. Abdel Ghaffar confirmed that the Ministry ensured a 24-hour operational system for all health services throughout the holidays. This included making sure that medical supplies were adequate, blood bags and vaccines were available, and that health professionals were ready to manage any medical emergencies.
Nationwide Healthcare During Holidays
Dr. Abdel Ghaffar concluded by reiterating the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to executing the directives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, ensuring comprehensive healthcare services are available to all citizens during high-demand periods, such as holidays and other events involving large crowds. The Ministry’s effort during the Easter and Sham El-Nessim holidays represents a continued focus on public health accessibility, especially during peak times of national celebrations.
