NCW Strengthens Partnership with World Bank for Women’s Empowerment

Dr. Amal Ammar, Chairperson of Egypt’s National Council for Women,  received delegation from the World Bank, led by Miri Ofadia, Human Development Program Manager, along with Iman Helmy, Senior Economist, Thuraya El Assyouti, Social Protection Specialist, and Kathy Wissa, Social Development Specialist. The visit aimed to congratulate Dr. Ammar on her appointment and discuss continued collaboration between the World Bank and the Council in the coming period.

Dr. Ammar expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the visit and the ongoing support, emphasizing her pride in the substantial achievements made in empowering women, protecting their rights, and addressing gender-based violence. These accomplishments have been realized through years of collaboration with the World Bank. Dr. Ammar also highlighted the importance of opening new avenues for cooperation while addressing any challenges to existing projects.

Miri Ofadia extended her best wishes to Dr. Ammar in her new role, recognizing the critical role the National Council for Women plays in advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. She praised the continued partnership with the Council, emphasizing the importance of their joint initiatives, and expressed optimism for future collaboration, assuring that the World Bank’s support would remain strong.

Thuraya El Assyouti also lauded the Egyptian Women’s Observatory, which monitors the achievements in the National Strategy for Empowering Egyptian Women 2030. She further commended the “Egyptian Seal for Gender Equality,” an initiative by the National Council for Women and the World Bank, awarded to private sector institutions that align with the Bank’s gender equality framework across various sectors.

The meeting reinforced the shared commitment to enhancing gender equality and furthering women’s rights in Egypt, with a focus on creating sustainable and impactful changes through continued collaboration.
