The joint regional program between UN Women and the International Labor Organization in Cairo concluded after five and a half years.
The program, “Promoting Productive Work and Decent Work for Women in Egypt, Jordan, and Palestine,” was implemented with the support of the National Council for Women, the Egyptian Ministry of Labor, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
Representatives from the National Council for Women, the Egyptian Ministry of Labor, UN Women, and the International Labor Organization attended the event.
Dr. Naglaa El-Adly stressed the importance of women’s economic empowerment and their participation in the labor market. She emphasized the significance of the joint regional program and highlighted its goals, which align with the priorities of the Egyptian government and the United Nations Development Cooperation Country Program.
El-Adly also mentioned the positive impact of the program, including building strong partnerships, achieving gender pay equity, and providing support for developing nurseries in the private sector.
On her part, Amal Tawfik emphasized the Council’s dedication to supporting women’s economic empowerment and ensuring a safe work environment for women. She also highlighted the Women’s Complaints Office’s commitment to providing support and cooperation in cases of workplace violence.
In the second session, Professor Mai Mahmoud highlighted the Egyptian state’s efforts to enhance women’s economic empowerment and participation in the labor market. She underlined the importance of using social media to raise awareness about gender equality in the workplace.
