Armed with a strong commitment to eliminating female genital mutilation, the NCW joins NCCM, and UNFPA Egypt to raise awareness of FGM by organizing workshops that targeted religious leaders (Imams affiliated with the Ministry of Awqaf and priests from the Egyptian Orthodox Church) in the governorates of Dakahlia, Gharbia, Damietta, and Kafr El-Sheikh.
These workshops come following the recommendation of the temporary committee, named “Ambassadors Against Circumcision” and aim to identify the extent of knowledge development of religious leaders in dealing with the issue of female genital mutilation after two years of working with the council in implementing awareness meetings titled “Galasat Al Dawar”, as part of the national project for the development of the Egyptian family.
It is worth mentioning that the workshops target over 2,000 religious leaders, including imams affiliated with the Ministry of Endowments and priests from the Egyptian Orthodox Church, and are organized simultaneously in the governorates of the Presidential Initiative, A Decent Life, and are scheduled to last for one month.
