The National Council for Women launched yesterday a door-knocking campaign called “Protect her from circumcision” in several villages to raise awareness about the criminalization of female genital mutilation and its health and psychological harms.
The event will continue for three days and is part of the efforts of the National Committee to Eliminate Female Genital Mutilation, jointly chaired by the National Council for Women and the National Center for Childhood and Motherhood, in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund Egypt, according to “Masrawy”.
The campaign aims to eliminate female genital mutilation and is being conducted in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund Egypt.
The main focus is on spreading awareness of the legal penalties for practicing circumcision and highlighting the physical and psychological effects on its victims.
The campaign targets villages of the “A Decent Life” campaign in the Giza, Dakahlia, and Qalyubia governorates and aims to train volunteers to conduct field awareness campaigns.
