Ministers of Environment and Petroleum Discuss Emission Reduction Efforts

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, held a meeting with Eng. Karim Badawy, Minister of Petroleum, at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources headquarters in the New Administrative Capital.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed the collaboration between their ministries in the areas of emission reduction, as well as the latest developments in the efforts by petroleum and gas companies to reduce emissions and comply with environmental regulations.

The meeting emphasized Egypt’s full commitment to international agreements aimed at preserving the climate and the environment, as well as reducing carbon emissions. The ministers highlighted the role of modern technologies in achieving the country’s oil and gas production goals with minimal environmental impact. They also discussed the creation of a roadmap for the ongoing implementation of emission reduction projects in petroleum companies, with specific timelines, taking into account the needs and conditions of different oil sector work sites. Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the efforts of the petroleum sector in recent months to conduct campaigns measuring emission levels.

The meeting was attended by Geologist Alaa Al-Batal, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Petroleum, overseeing safety, environment, and energy efficiency, as well as Engineer Moataz Atef, Undersecretary of the Minister’s office, and the official spokesperson for the ministry.
