Jordan’s Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply convened on Sunday by the inaugural meeting of a new working group for empowering women-owned businesses. The gathering brought together influential female entrepreneurs, representatives from women’s empowerment organizations, and key figures from industry and commerce chambers.
Ministry Secretary-General Dana Al-Zoubi emphasized the critical role of the working group in advancing the ministry’s goals and fostering increased women’s participation across various economic sectors. She commended the efforts of the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment and the Jordanian National Committee for Women’s Affairs in addressing the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs.
Al-Zoubi also provided an overview of the ministry’s notable achievements in 2023 and the first half of the current year, outlining ongoing plans and strategies. She highlighted the newly established Women’s Empowerment Unit as a crucial component in expanding economic opportunities for women.
The meeting served as a platform for participants to define the working group’s objectives, including developing strategies to empower women, overcoming challenges, expanding access to resources, and creating a supportive business ecosystem. The group unanimously agreed on the need for a comprehensive work charter outlining goals, structure, meeting schedules, and responsibilities.
To enhance focus and efficiency, the proposal to form specialized technical teams dedicated to improving women’s economic access garnered strong support. Participants actively contributed suggestions for future areas of concentration.
This initiative underscores Jordan’s commitment to gender equality and economic empowerment. By establishing this dedicated working group, the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply aims to create a more inclusive and prosperous business environment for women entrepreneurs.
