Head of the Egyptian Trade Union Federation, Hassan Shehata, said that the Ministry of Labor, as part of the Egyptian state, believes in the role of women in development, and therefore, the Ministry is keen to implement the policy of integrating women into the labor market by making them aware of their rights and duties within the work and production sites.
In addition, the Ministry seeks to integrate them into all vocational training courses implemented by the Ministry through fixed and mobile training centers on professions needed by the labor market, as well as jobs and employment forums announced by the Ministry and its directorates in the governorates, in coordination with private sector companies, women receive a large share of them.
His remarks came during the Minister’s speech delivered on his behalf by Mohamed Kamal, Director of the Labor Directorate in Alexandria, at the activities of the “Our Power is Our Future: Women Lead Sustainable Development” conference under the auspices of the Ministry of Labor and the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development.
Shehata stressed that the Ministry of Labor pays great attention to supporting working Egyptian women and empowering them economically, as the Ministry established the “Gender Equality and Women’s Economic Empowerment Unit” headed by the Minister of Labor, followed by “27” sub-units in the labor directorates in the governorates.
He added that the Ministry issued a responsive inspection guide to guide the labor inspector during the process of inspecting establishments, in addition to holding several training workshops to train labor, safety, and employment inspectors on the concepts of gender equality and relevant international agreements, and the gender inspection guide.
Two ministerial decisions were also issued by the Minister of Labor to reorganize the employment of women at night and abolish restrictions imposed on some professions, with praise from the International Labor Organization, the National Council for Women, and many national and international organizations, in addition to participating in the launch of the national plan to achieve equality among women.
Concluding his speech, Minister Hassan Shehata stressed that the Ministry of Labor welcomes cooperation and joint work with all development partners at home and abroad to achieve common goals, especially those related to developing women’s skills and preparing them for the labor market.
