The She Arts Festival’s 4th edition is scheduled to take place from September 26th to 29th in Cairo and Alexandria, showcasing both local and international female artists.
The festival has already released its program, featuring a diverse range of events such as concerts, theater plays, dance performances, film screenings, seminars, workshops, and photography exhibitions.
The festival will focus on women creators and women’s issues and will span across various venues in Cairo such as the AUC Tahrir Campus (Falaki Theatre, Ewart Memorial Hall, open-air main garden, and university rooms) and the French Institute.
In Alexandria, the festival will be hosted at the Jesuit Cultural Centre. Neveen Kenawy, the founder and artistic director of She Arts, mentioned that this year’s festival will offer an increased number of workshops and masterclasses compared to previous years.
These workshops will be conducted by prominent figures in the artistic field, including a contemporary dance workshop by director and choreographer Reem Hegab and a singing masterclass by the internationally renowned Egyptian mezzo-soprano Farrah El-Dibany.
The festival’s program will also feature Egyptian and Spanish folklore workshops, led by well-established representatives. Additionally, Italian artist Gold Mass will not only perform a concert on the festival’s second day but will also conduct a 3-day workshop on electronic music production.
Music is always a highlight of the She Arts festival, and this year’s music segment will commence with a special event honoring the 100th anniversary of Um Kalthoum’s presence in Arab music.
According to al-Ahram website the celebration will feature singer Marwa Nagy, accompanied by the all-women She Arts Orchestra, conducted by Donia Akram, and then Magda Reda. Kenawy emphasized the importance of music in every edition of the festival, drawing from her own musical background in her studies and career.
This year, she invites the audience to attend various music events, including performances by Spanish trios La Prenda Roja and Faneka, as well as a diverse lineup of international musicians such as German jazz vocalist Céline Rudolph, Czech Republic’s Bára Zmeková, JaMese from Hungary, Julia Pratt from the USA, and Amani Riahi from Tunisia. Egypt will be well represented by performers such as Ritmo, Nouran Abutaleb, Youssra El-Hawary, and Yousra El-Gendy, each bringing their unique blend of music styles to the festival.
